In this learning activity, ‘Nines and Eights’, Sami shares her easy method for subtracting 9. Students try Sami’s method and look for patterns in the problems they solve. They are then challenged to use the same method for subtracting 8. An answer sheet is provided and includes accompanying teaching notes with suggestions for supporting learning and further exploration.
